Conduit App Marketplace Guidelines
When you share an app on the Conduit App Marketplace, it is first reviewed by our content and compliance specialists to make sure it complies with our guidelines.
Apps should be reliable, perform as expected, and be free of offensive material - in other words, provide users with a good experience and the App Marketplace with a welcome addition.
Remember to install your own app! Put yourself in the user's place, play with the app, and make sure you've achieved what you had in mind. Look for problematic features and bugs - from an icon that doesn't look right, to the window size, to broken links.
We're on your side! We want your app to be approved, and beyond that, to succeed in the App Marketplace! To that end, we're happy to share our guidelines with you.
Main Sections:
The ability of the app to offer its content in the most convenient and interactive way for the user - In a word, apps that offer interesting content and functionality are likely to be approved.
- The app must provide valuable content and a unique user experience.
- Apps must offer different content from one another (identical apps will not be approved).
- The app's window size should fit its content and functionality well.
- The content of the app should display properly on all supported browsers.
- Embedded Apps should have more than one function (they cannot contain solely a link to a website). Some good examples: PiTSi, See-Do!
- All features must work properly (radio streams, TV channels, etc).
- Video and music apps should let the user listen to the media within the app (unlike apps that open media programs).
- Users must be able to use the app without having to download other programs (excluding Flash and similar).
- Apps that offer large menus should provide a way back to the main menu.
- Apps that present minimum or no functionality, or are limited to a certain audience (a forum, site, etc.) may be rejected.
- Apps that merely display content aggregations may be rejected (for example, search aggregators).
- The activity of the app must be done within the app window (Apps that just open a browser, are based entirely on external links, or simply open a web page within the app, will be rejected).
- Apps that simply contain a website within an app will be rejected.
- If the app includes a collection of games, they should have the same theme.
- Apps should contain one game that the user can play within the app. (Apps that open the game outside the app will be rejected.)
- Apps that bring the user to a game's download page or open an installation file will be rejected.
This section relates to your app's title, description, icons, thumbnails and hidden tags. It defines the display of your app page as viewed in the App Marketplace and it affects the chances your app will be easily found in the search results
Name – The title should be attractive and reflect the use or content of your app. for example, "Live Football Stats" or "PDF Creator".
Hint – This is a short text that the user sees when passing the mouse over your app's icon. It helps the user remember what feature he has installed on his browser. Try including your app's name and add a call to action, for example: "Get all live football stats" or "Create a PDF file."
Description – The description (250 characters) is your chance to tell users and other publishers about your app! Make a good first impression-tell them about the app's content and how they will benefit by installing it. Start off with a call for action: "Get your favorite team’s statistics!" or "Create a PDF file from any page on the Web."
*We reserve the right to rewrite descriptions or names of apps that do not clearly explain the nature of the app.
Tags – You can include up to four tags. Adding tags to your app helps publishers and users find your app in their App Marketplace search results. Use tags that describe your app best.
*Tags that don’t fit the app's nature or contain irrelevant brand names will be deleted.
Thumbnail - Your thumbnail should match the look and feel of your website/company so that users will be able to recognize your app at first glance. This is as important as the description - an eye catching logo with a distinct image and live colors will attract users.
Icon - The app's icon is the button that will appear on your users' browser. It should be unique, attractive and visually connected to the app's other images. Try to choose one that will stand out and present one clear and distinct element.
Screenshots - Your screenshots (1 to 3) should be high-quality images that show the app's key features. The goal is to give the user a brief preview that tells the app's story.
